The Farrells — also O’Farrell, O’Ferrall, and Ó Fearghail — take their name from the Uí Fhearghail of Annaly in what is now County Longford, Ireland. For more than a thousand years that country was Farrell land: Longphort Uí Fhearghail, the stronghold of the Farrells.
The best-known clan motto is Prodesse Non Nocere — to do good, not evil. Another is Cú reubha, the hound unleashed. The traditional arms show a golden lion on a green field: courage on hope.
This site is the family home on the internet, not the international clan association. For more information about the Farrells — rallies, Clans of Ireland work, and the wider kindred — see farrellclan.ie.
Named Farrells in the public record are collected on the Famous Farrells timeline, which also carries a dated history of County Longford — Annaly before it was a shire — with tradition marked apart from the record.
